Work Experience Program FAQ

Prospect’s Forces@WORK: Public Safety Personnel program is a partnership between the Government of Alberta, Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services, Prospect Human Services and Alberta employers.

Designed to address the unique and sometimes challenging aspects of transitioning from military and public safety personnel roles to new careers beyond the frontline, employers have access to former military and public safety personnel’s invaluable characteristics of loyalty, trust and commitment along with the training, skills and experiences they bring with them from front-line service.

Work exposure offers a low-risk opportunity for the former military and public safety personnel and employer to assess and refine their working relationship and employment fit before committing to longer term employment.

How does the Workplace Training program work?

Our program has two streams for job seekers: On-the-job Training & Paid Work Experience.

Our team works with each job seeker to determine the best stream for them, providing access to workshops, individualized coaching, networking opportunities, and on-going support to help them secure meaningful and sustainable employment. Our team also provides support to job seekers with resumes, cover letters, interview preparation, LinkedIn support, and short course access.

In parallel, Prospect proactively builds employer relationships, fosters job seekers’ commitment to work, and solicits job openings on behalf of all participants. We work with you to understand your needs and the opportunities you can provide to ensure strong matches with job seekers.

Once a placement is secured with an employer, we provide ongoing support to ensure successful employment outcomes for both parties.

What are the benefits of participating in the program as an employer?

By participating in the program, you gain access to a reliable source of trained and motivated job seekers who are eager to succeed in their chosen career paths.

Moreover, On-the-Job Training and Paid Work Experience streams provide hands-on experience to job seekers who are changing industries or occupations, allowing them to gain valuable skills and knowledge to be successful in their new role with you.

This means that the job seekers you hire through our program will have the necessary skills to succeed in their positions, resulting in a lower risk of employee turnover, increased productivity, and better overall job performance.

Is there any cost to participate in the program?

No, the program is entirely government-funded, and there is zero cost to participating employers.
